Re: I can't access my trial portal - Are there SaaS issues?

Patrick, my name is Hari and I'm with AppDynamics Support. Firstly, apologies for the service interruption on this environment. Notes from our internal operations team suggests that this service incident was resolved around 7:47AM (or thereabouts) Pacific time today (9/27/2016). You should have access to this Controller now. Kindly confirm.

Re: your question about a status page, we do not have a robust 'real-time' status page on a per user basis. But you should be receiving a notification about Service Interruptions via an email based notification mechanism we have in place. Do you not have any emails this morning from no-reply@portal.appdynamics.com around this incident timeframe?

Re: AppDynamics- Shared server installation impact

Sneha, are you able to elaborate a little bit re: what exact setup you mean by "Shared Server"?

Is your Java or .NET application hosted on the same machine as where you've installed the AppDynamics Controller? If so, please be aware that kinda setup is known to cause problems. The Controller is a very resource(I/O and memory) intensive component. Now your application (depending on usage, concurrency and level of application complexity) could be equally resource intensive as well. Trying to cram these onto an infrastructure that is not sized for such an operation will lead to resource contention and resulting problems, like you suggest. If this is a Production type setup, then strong suggestion is to have a separate infrastructure for hosting the Appdynamics Controller (and other backend server software such as End User Monitoring Processor and Events Services).

Please note that our agent software(which typically resides within the context of your application) is highly optimized for extremely low overhead and almost never is the reason for an application performance bottleneck(on the application it is monitoring in the first place). Hope that helps

siegfried, good investigative work plugging in an incorrect password to validate the connection. Going by that sounds evidence, it seems that some of the Stored Procs that AppD DataBase Monitoring depends on (for collecting usage data) maybe failing or has references that this user doesn't have access to. I'd check to make sure that the database user you are using has all the requisite privileges / roles assigned for Database Monitoring to function. see https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO42/IBM+DB2+LUW+Database+Permissions for some dtls.. Would be curious to know if you already had taken care of these pre-reqs.. and if you are still seeing this error when configuring the collector

Re: HTTP Request Data Collector

I don't know what should I use as a paramter name to get post request payload, considering below HTTP POST request:

POST http://acme.local.com/api/employees HTTP/1.1
Host: acme.local.com
Content-Length: 59
content-type: application/xml

<Employee>
<Name>name</Name>
<ID>1</ID>
</Employee>

Employee is the request body that I am trying to collect, should I add an http parameter name of type Employee? what if I that request body is changing, should I update my data collector any time the name change?

I thought having ALL as parameter name would collect all http request parameters, including request body, isn't it the case?

Thanks!

.NET Agent Null Reference Exception

Whenever .NET agent tries to attach to Windows Service, it throws this error. I have a strong feeling, that this is reason why I don't see any data from this agent in controller (see machine agent, but not app server one).

Error after agent installation for .net standalone application

Hi,

after installing/configuration of the .net app agent for a standalone application, the application throws an error in this context. application.log:

System.Reflection.ReflectionTypeLoadException: Unable to load one or more of the requested types.
Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information.
at System.Reflection.RuntimeModule.GetTypes(RuntimeModule module)

and crashed.

Contains of the appdynamics agent log has no error or warn messages.

Application is a clr.version=4.0.30319.1026

AppDynamics version is 4.1.7.1

Google brings this, but I'm not sure if this is related to my issue:

https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/588847

Any help/workaround/suggestion is very appreciated,

Boris

Thank you for your reply.

I gave the permissions to the user "root" with the given commands, because it's the user starting the agent. vm100 is my db host and vm200 is my agent host (is root still the DBMon_Agent_User?).

But I got an error on the last command:

$ db2 grant execute on function SYSPROC.MON_GET_DATABASE to DBAgent_User

DB21034E  The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a
valid Command Line Processor command.  During SQL processing it returned:
SQL0204N  "SYSPROC.MON_GET_DATABASE" is an undefined name.  SQLSTATE=42704

Every other command was successfully.

Btw. the db2 version is DB2/LINUXX8664 10.1.3

Still the same error.

Kind regards

Report time period is wrong

Hi,

we're running an hourly report, based on a dashboard that is set to report for the last 1 hour.

The dashboard displays data from the last 1 hour as expected.

However, the PDF that's delivered via the report is 3 hours behind.

Is this a defect or an incorrect setting somewhere in our configuration?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Hari,

Thanks for the response!

By 'Shared Server', I meant server already hosting other applications.

The server that we are trying to install App Dynamics on already hosts one java application.

Currently we are in the exploration phase for the tool, so we have not moved it to production environment yet.

We faced issue with the server while exploring the tool on non production environment.

Though i have not tried but i would recommend this.

- Stop controller and other services.

- Ask the root user to change owner and group for all the AppDynamics folders recursively using option -R.

- Start the controller and associated services as the new user.

- validate everything works fine.

- Continue with the upgrade.

I have installed AppDynamcis on-premises version. All of a sudden today, AppDynamics displays only a blank page. I have restarted the machine/service number of times but in vain. I also verified the event viewer which says the service is running. What is the solution?

Re: Scripts for Browser Synthetic Monitoring

Hello,

I've used the Selium add on to create a script that logs in to our site.  I get a screenshot that our page loaded through the job, but then it times out after 60 seconds.  It seems like it is loading the site, but then not continuing with the rest of the steps.  I've tried adjusting the wait time in the script, but that's just the timeout.  I don't see any indication of what the script is waiting on?  The script I'm trying to use is below.

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-
from selenium.webdriver.firefox.webdriver import WebDriver
from selenium.webdriver.common.action_chains import ActionChains
import time, unittest

def is_alert_present(wd):
    try:
        wd.switch_to_alert().text
        return True
    except:
        return False

class LSOL_Login_Loads(unittest.TestCase):
    def setUp(self):
        self.wd = WebDriver()
        self.wd.implicitly_wait(30)

    def test_LSOL_Login_Loads(self):
        success = True
        wd = self.wd
        wd.get("http://www.landstaronline.com/Public/Login.aspx")
        wd.find_element_by_id("USER").click()
        wd.find_element_by_id("USER").clear()
        wd.find_element_by_id("USER").send_keys("USERID")
        wd.find_element_by_id("PASSWORD").click()
        wd.find_element_by_id("PASSWORD").clear()
        wd.find_element_by_id("PASSWORD").send_keys("PASSWORD")
        wd.find_element_by_id("Submit").click()
        self.assertTrue(success)

    def tearDown(self):
        self.wd.quit()

if __name__ == '__main__':
    unittest.main()

Re: Health rule to detect when machine agents are not reporting

$

We just had this setup last week at our shop. There is a metric in the metric browser that reports a 1 if the agent is available.  This metric exists for both machine and app agents.  Just set up a health rule that alerts if this metric is less than 1.

Application Infrastructure Performance|APP.AvailableLoads|Agent|Machine|Availability

You can set it up by node or tier, depending on how you want to be alerted.  Hope this helps.

I have the same question. Has anyone built this from a browser webapp or are people using a proxy layer to get to the API's?

New BTs compared againsts a baseline value of 0

$

I have configured some OOTB health rules and a policy to send out an email alert on those. The default daily baseline, as I understand it, looks at the hour-by-hour value of data over the last 7 days to compare. I have new BTs being detected, and alert emails are being sent because this baseline has not been build yet. Is there any option when creating this to exclude BTs which do not have a baseline built yet?

I have attached a screenshot of the alert confition in the email being sent. Obviously, this is a useless alert, and I would like to be able to continue to use the baseline for those BTs that have been reported for a while, but not alert when new BTs are detected.

PHP agent - proxy ctl dir - catch 22

$

Hello!

I'm doing a PoC on AppDynamics for a jailed php application on EL5 (CentOS/RHEL/OL), and have run into a bit of a snag. The front-end is executed by the Apache mod-php while the back-end code and management code (start/stop application etc) is executed from the command line. In typical deployments these will share the php configuration file.

Now, If I don't specify a proxy ctl directory, running php from the command line fails with the following error:

[AD agent] CLI mode expects proxy ctrl dir to be specified via APPD_PROXY_CTRL_DIR environment variable or agent.proxy_ctrl_dir INI setting

If I do specify a proxy ctl directory, instrumentation of the web application stop working. (perhaps related to the "dynamic-service"?)

I'm sure there is a simple and obvious solution that I can't see. Would appreciate it if someone would point the way!

Best,

Roy
