Re: Windows Performance Counters

Re: Custom Event

Hi Apichat,

Your screenshots show what looks like a properly configured Policy trigger, and a Health Rule dialog that indicates no Actions were executed.

There's not enough information to determine why no Actions were executed.

If your action is a Remediation Script, there's a suggestion to check the associated Machine Agent log at https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO42/Remediation+Scripts

If the problem persists, I would recommend opening a Support case.

Hi, Can somebody please tell me how to connect Microsoft Azure Cloud with appdynamics SaaS Controller.

I am looking for the steps/links/documents for the same.

Remove JMX metrics

Hello,

I have been creating some JMX metrics with delta roll ups and now I want to delete some of the metrics I created as they are not longer necessary or have been moved to another metric path.

The issue is that I'm not able to find a way to remove that metric as they keep appearing in Metric Browser and some of them are even plotting data, even when they have already been removed from the instrumentation in Configuration -> Instrumentation -> JMX.

Could you please let me know how can I get rid of these metrics?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

I've would like to try the AppDynamics Lite Plan, so I followed the instructions and created a trial account.

When I access the SaaS instance ( https://XPTO.saas.appdynamics.com/controller/ ) I get the error below after entering the XPTO account information:

=======================================================================

HTTP Status 400 - Error while processing SAML Authentication Response - see server log for details

type Status report

messageError while processing SAML Authentication Response - see server log for details

descriptionThe request sent by the client was syntactically incorrect (Error while processing SAML Authentication Response - see server log for details).

Is this a bug of Version 4.2.3.1, build 57 ?!? How can I overcome this issue and try the AppDynamics Lite Plan?

Thanks in advance

Thank you so much for the response. Unblock option helped me install the Service. Most of our apps are using Managed Data Driver for Oracle Data Provider for .NET and the Performance Counter is not showing them in the list of instances to pick from. It only shows the instances that use Unmanaged Data Driver.

Any idea how to make monitor the Managed ODP.NET?

Attached the screen shot.

Reload java agent config

Hi,

I need to change the application-name in the controller xml file.  Is there a way to reload the controller xml file in order to pick up the change or does the java application need to be restarted?

Running app agent 4.1.7.1 on RHEL 6.3 with java 1.7.0_10-b18 64-bit.

Thanks, Steve.

Difference in times on top tab (entire execution time of a transaction) and execution time at top le

In the call graph, I get a large execution time (e.g. 4.2 seconds at the top tab, but a smaller execution time (e.g. 1.3 s) at the top left by "execution time". Why this massive difference? This is the case for all my traces and I don't think they are partial ones.

Where is this extra time being spent?

(I am running Parse Server on Heroku, and have App Dynamics as an add-on)

I've fixed the issue with your account, you should be able to log into your controller now.

Alternatively, you can just download the on-prem trial. It will expire to LITE after 15 days.

Set up, configure or install RDS Database

$

Hi everyone,

We have a set of servers in Amazon Web Services that we are trying to monitor using AppDynamics, and we are trying to monitor an RDS instance (it's a MySQL DB). Using the

next URL's steps we are unable to connect from AppDynamics Database service against RDS instance in Amazon side. After adding a new collector for the Databases service in AppDynamics we always get a "The agent is currently not reporting any data" error.

Configuration info when adding collector is OK (we have checked several times).

We have also seen another URL in which you have to install an extension, but as procedure is different as the previous one, and it seems to be a bit confussing about, i.e., where to install the extension, we haven't try it.

My question is really simple, we need to configure the collector against an RDS instance. How exactly should I do?

Thanks in advance!

Predefined Templating Variables

How do I update a predefined templating variable, particularly controllerUrl? We are using controller v.4.1.2.2 on Windows.

Thanks!

Hi David,

Going the error message "The agent is currently not reporting any data" error. It looks you have installed DB agent that is part of appdynamics controller https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO42/Database+Monitoring and the supported environments for DB Monitoring is below:

https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO42/Database+Monitoring+Requirements+and+Supported+Environments

However, the forum link https://blog.appdynamics.com/database/how-to-set-up-and-monitor-amazon-rds-databases/ you have referred is suggesting to configure collector in AD4DB UI refer https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/ADDB/Install+AppDynamics+for+Databases not contorller UI and for this we do not need to run any separate dbagent.jar process as such

And the other link https://www.appdynamics.com/community/exchange/extension/aws-rds-monitoring-extension/ is need to configured by dropping monitor under monitors folder of machine agent and this will be monitored as extension custom metrics in controller metric browser, this is not AD4DB:

https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO42/Install+the+Standalone+Machine+Agent

Let us know if above information clarifies the process.

Can you attach agent.log under <DBAgent_install_dir>/logs path and also screenshot of collector config in edit view and screenshot showing error in Controller UI, if any disconnect still.

Check if you have configured the collector name and rest of args as per docs and start dbagent.jar as per docs:

https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO42/Database+Agent+Configuration+Properties

Arun

Hi,

Check if this helps:

- I see in domain.xml (<Controller_install_dir>/appserver/glassfish/domains/domain1/config path) an entry that looks of pattern below, it could be that controllerUrl variable value referred in https://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO42/Predefined+Templating+Variables could be picking up from this entry:

 <jvm-options>-Dappdynamics.controller.ui.deeplink.url=http://localhost:8090/controller</jvm-options>

Arun

Hi Jane,

Can you please confirm is this hotspot snapshot, if Hotspot (setting under Configure -> Instrumentation -> call graph settings ->"Enable aggressive slow snapshot collection" checkbox setting is enabled?) snapshots we will collect performance causing API in call graph.

Can you please provide screenshots from controller UI with snapshot issue in view? and another screenshot with hotspot settings in view as well

Hi Steve,

Any changes to controller-info.xml or jvm arg -Dappdynamics.agent.applicationName will need a jvm restart, Hope that answers

Re: Remove JMX metrics

Hi,

As of now we do not see an option to remove metric once registered at metric browser.

But for metric data still reporting case though rule exists, can you share the JMX rule config view from Configure -> instrumentation -> JMX , with target rule selected and latest agent logs if issue exists post agent reset (Click "Reset" button on agent node dashboard -> Agents screen in UI)

Arun

Hi Rajeev,

Apologies for delay in response, see if below information helps if issue still exists:

Can you restart the DB Agent java process with below arg in place:

 -Duser.timezone=<Timezone>

Example command:

shell> java -Duser.timezone=UTC -jar db-agent.jar
